Chairman of the Board
Mike is the President of Horizon
Landscape & Irrigation Co.
(Wyckoff) since its inception in
1976. He
is a
Certified Irrigation
Professional and a Certified
Landscape Professional.
Mike served on the State of NJ
Landscape Irrigation Licensing
Board for approximately 17
years, as well as various
community Boards and Committees. Mike
currently serves as Chairman of the Legislative
Committee (since 2005) and as a member of the Bylaws Committee.

Jody Shilan, MLA
 |
President
Jody is an award winning
landscape designer and owner of
Jody Shilan Designs, LLC.
(Wyckoff).
He
holds a Bachelors degree in
Landscape Architecture (BSLA)
from Rutgers University and a
Masters degree in Landscape
Architecture (MLA) from the
University of Massachusetts. He
is an active board member of the
PLANET membership subcommittee
and the advisory board at Bergen
Community College, where he
taught for 10 years. His design
work, installations and business
articles have been featured in
more than a dozen trade
magazines, websites and
journals, and he is the editor
of FromDesign2Build.com.
Jody also chairs the Public
Relations Committee.

Dave Cavilla, CLT, ICPI

Director
Dave is owner of Camberly
Gardens (Tenafly). He is a
member of the Legislative
Committee and volunteers as a
CLT exam Judge. He is a
CLT and ICPI certified.
Dave serves as Chair of the
Community Projects Committee.

Fred "Skip" Gallione

Director
Skip is owner of Gallione
Landscaping, Inc. (Old Tappan)
and is a past President and
Chairman of the Board for NJLCA.
He is currently a Director on
the Board. Skip serves on
the Business Committee.

Steven Jomides
 |
Director
Steven is the President of
Lawns By Yorkshire Inc. He is an
active member of NAIOP, BOMA,
CAI, and SIMA. Among his current
affiliations Steven has recently
formed the Cohen – Jomides
foundation and has pledged
$15,000.00 of scholarship monies
over the next three years for
students entering the green
industry.

Dennis Sparano

Director
Dennis is the sole owner of
Tapestry Land Design, LLC
(Princeton). He has a BSLA from
Rutgers University, and also
extended his studies at Rutgers
to become certified in Woody
Plants and Irrigation.
Dennis serves on the Events
Committee.

Pieter is owner of Premium
Aquascapes (New Milford) and
founder of the S.E.E.D. Program.
He is a Certified Aquascape
Contractor and is Chair of the
Educational Committee.

Scott Gillinder, CIC

Associate Director
Scott is an insurance agent and
is Sr. Marketing Executive with
the Scirocco Financial Group in
Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. He has a
BS in Accounting from Lehigh
University. Scott has served on
our Insurance, Budget, Golf and
Trade Show committees.

Russell Trocano, Esq.
 |
Associate Director
Russell is an attorney in
Ridgewood, NJ. He
graduated magna cum laude from
Seton Hall in 1984 with a BA and
from Fordham University with a
J.D. in 1987. He has been
practicing law for over 20
years. Russell is also a
partner at Maine Evergreen
Nursery (Maywood), which has
been run by his family for many
generations.

Dr. Bruce Clarke
 |
Board Advisor
Dr. Clarke is Director of the
Rutgers Center for Turfgrass
Science and is a published
author on Turfgrass Pathology.
He is also a frequent speaker at
educational conferences both in
the U.S. and internationally.

Dr. Steve Fischer
 |
Board Advisor
Dr. Fischer is a professor in
the Horticultural program at
Bergen Community College
(Paramus). He received his
BS from the Delaware Valley
College of Science and
Agriculture, and his MS and PhD
from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Fischer is also very
involved with the CLT committee.

Dr. Jim Murphy

Board Advisor
Dr. Murphy is the Extension
Specialist in Turfgrass
Management at Rutgers
University. He
conducts research and teaches in
the undergraduate and extension
programs on the development of
best management practices in
turfgrass.
